Safe Toys for the Holidays

The Consumer Product Safety Commission just released a report with guidelines for choosing the safest toys this holiday season.

Here are the top 5 toy hazards:

-Scooters and riding toys, especially due to lack of helmets or safety gear.

-Small toys and toy parts that can be swallowed by kids under 3.

-Balloons: not good for sea life, not good for babies.

-Magnets aren’t good for kids under six, because they can be deadly if swallowed.

-Battery chargers and adapters require adult supervision to avoid burns.

Check out the full report at CPSC before beginning your holiday shopping to ensure a safe, happy holiday season.

Jennifer Aniston Baby Watch Takes a New Turn

I guess Jennifer Aniston won’t be buying herself a Peg Perego double stroller anytime soon after all.  Recent photos of a svelte looking Aniston seem to dispel the rumors that she is pregnant with twins, so it looks she won’t be joining the celebrity mom crew right away.

But while she isn’t currently shopping for baby bling or taking prenatal yoga, Aniston is definitely planning on having kids in the future, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we can officially extend a Baby Blog Blog congrats to Jen. :)

More Barbie Versus Bratz Drama

Not content simply to put their competitor out of business, Mattel is now seeking to impound and destroy all Bratz products.  Apparently, Barbie does NOT believe that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  This latest salvo in the war between the Barbie and Bratz camps seems like the official nail in the coffin for the Bratz, who still owe Barbie $100 million.

I am curious to see if, in some strange twist of fate, Bratz dolls become high-priced collectibles on eBay or the toy black market as a result of the soon-to-be excuted ban.  I am half tempted to buy one as a potential “investment”, but I don’t know if I can get past the fact that I really don’t like the Bratz’ “image.”

Should be interesting to see what happens, at any rate.

Here Come the Babies Named Barack!

I have been reading about a lot of newborns being named Barack recently, but the most interesting story to me was the about the twins named Barack and Michelle.  While these adorable twins might not become politcal candidates any time soon, they are perfect candidates for a Graco double stroller as they campaign on a platform of less dirty diapers.  Now that is change to believe in!

Remembering Refugee Children

Bloggers Unite

Most of my posts are about the lighter side of childhood, but today I am delving into some less pleasant territory and joining with bloggers across the globe to raise awareness for the plight of refugees, especially children.  Almost half of the world’s 35 million refugees are children, and many of them are separated from their families, which makes them extremely vulnerable to abuse and neglect.

Jennifer Anniston Pregnant with Twins

Star Magazine reports Jennifer Aniston is pregnant with twins after eating cassava root and undergoing fertility treatments.  Congratulations Jennifer!

I can’t wait to see what great baby gear Jennifer gets for her bundles of joy.  I am envisioning a blinged out double jogging stroller, some cashmere diapers and GPS-enabled baby monitors for the nursery.  I also wonder if she’ll negotiate a hefty paycheck for her babies’ first photos, like some other celebs have.  It should be interesting to say the least.   This is one developing story  that I definitely will be following for the next several months.  :)

It’s Time to Vote, Baby, Vote!

Today was definitely a first in my long experience as a voter.  The turnout was amazing, which meant a very long line, but nobody seemed to mind to much.  If anything, the general mood was pretty jovial and maybe even a little festive.  There were a few little ones hanging out in Graco baby strollers wearing “I Voted” stickers, and one little boy was jumping around and telling everyone he “voted” for “O-O-O.”  He sounded like Santa and it was pretty cute all around.

I hope everyone exercises their right, privilege and responsibility and makes it to the polls today to cast their vote.  For some inspiration to brave the long lines, here are some funny baby clothes:

The Sarah Palin onesie is still one of my favorites from my earlier post on Infants in Politics.

Ambitious youngsters can challenge the status quo with the Me for President t-shirt.

Little Anarchists can stir things up in the Question Authority baby dress.
